Acne & Congestion *
Breakouts, blackheads, congestion and excess oil can be frustrating, particularly when your skin seems to improve only to flare again.
At Sibu Skin and Beauty, we look beyond the breakout itself. The goal is to understand what is happening in your skin, support healthy skin function and build a treatment plan that can be adjusted as your skin changes.
Every treatment starts with the health of your skin. Visible results follow naturally when your skin is genuinely well cared for — not the other way around.

Understanding Acne & Congestion
Acne and congestion can present in different ways, including:
Congestion develops when oil and dead skin cells accumulate within the follicle, while active breakouts can also involve inflammation and bacteria.
Hormonal changes, stress, skincare, skin-barrier function and other individual factors can all influence how acne presents.
Because the cause and presentation can vary considerably from one person to another, acne is usually better managed with a consistent plan rather than a single corrective treatment.
Not Sure Where to Start?
If acne or recurring congestion is your main concern and you are unsure what to book, we can help you choose the most appropriate starting point.
Our Welcome Treatment is designed for new clients who would like professional guidance together with treatment, while a Skin Consultation is available when you want dedicated assessment and treatment planning without having a treatment on the day.
This can be particularly helpful if you:
experience persistent or recurring breakouts
have tried multiple products or treatments without lasting improvement
are taking prescription medication
have sensitive, inflamed or compromised skin alongside acne
are concerned about acne scarring or post-breakout pigmentation
are unsure which treatment is appropriate
RECOMMENDED TREATMENTS
Acne and congestion rarely need exactly the same treatment at every appointment.
We usually work in stages — first calming active breakouts and improving congestion, then refining the treatment as the skin becomes clearer and stronger.
Signature – Acne
Usually our primary starting treatment for active breakouts, congestion and oily skin.
Your therapist assesses the skin at every visit and adapts the treatment using the most appropriate combination of cleansing, hydrodermabrasion, exfoliation or peel, extractions and targeted professional products.
This makes Signature – Acne particularly useful during the clearing phase because the treatment can change as your skin changes.
Standalone LED
LED can be used alongside your clearing plan when inflammation and active breakouts are a priority.
It is particularly useful when we want to support the skin without continually adding more exfoliation or resurfacing.
HydraFacial
HydraFacial may be recommended when congestion, excess oil and blocked pores are a significant part of the picture.
Using the Murad Clearing option allows us to combine HydraFacial’s cleansing and extraction-focused steps with targeted support for breakout-prone skin.
It may be used at selected points within your clearing journey rather than replacing your overall treatment plan.
Skin Needling
Skin Needling generally comes later.
Once active acne is well controlled, the focus can shift from clearing breakouts to improving residual acne scarring and uneven texture.
We generally would not progress to Skin Needling while significant active inflammatory acne is still present.
How We Customise Your Clearing Treatment
Depending on what your skin needs at each appointment, your Signature treatment may incorporate:
Hydrodermabrasion
Hydrodermabrasion may be incorporated into your Signature – Acne treatment when deeper cleansing and congestion management are appropriate.
It allows us to adapt the treatment according to how oily, congested, sensitive or reactive your skin is on the day.
Extractions
Professional extractions may be incorporated where there is accessible congestion, blackheads or blocked pores.
They are performed selectively rather than automatically, with the aim of clearing congestion without unnecessarily irritating or traumatising the skin.
Peels & Advanced Resurfacing
Professional peels or advanced resurfacing may be incorporated when the skin is suitable and additional support is needed for congestion, uneven texture or post-breakout changes.
The approach is selected according to your skin, current home care and where you are within your clearing journey.
Enzyme Treatment Boost
An Enzyme Treatment Boost may be incorporated when the skin would benefit from additional exfoliation and congestion support without immediately moving into a stronger resurfacing treatment.
It gives your therapist another way to adapt the treatment according to what your skin needs at that appointment.
Your Clearing Journey
The aim is not to repeat one treatment indefinitely.
Your treatment plan can change as your skin improves.
Active Breakouts & Inflammation
Calm the skin, reduce congestion and support healthy skin function.
Clearing & Maintenance
Manage remaining congestion, support oil balance and reduce recurring breakouts.
Post-Acne Marks, Scarring & Texture
Introduce more targeted regenerative or resurfacing treatments once the skin is ready.
That may mean alternating or combining Signature – Acne, LED and HydraFacial at different stages rather than choosing one treatment and repeating it indefinitely.
EDUCATION
Acne, Congestion & Scarring
If active breakouts have settled but you are left with scarring or persistent textural changes, your treatment pathway may shift.
Our Scarring & Texture page explains the treatments we use when scarring and texture have become the primary concern.
When Medical Assessment May Be Appropriate
Some acne is outside the scope of cosmetic skin treatment alone.
We may recommend that you speak with your GP or dermatologist where acne is severe, painful, cystic, rapidly worsening, causing significant scarring or appears to require medical management.
Professional skin treatment can sometimes complement medical acne care, but it does not replace appropriate medical diagnosis or prescription treatment.
If you are already using prescription acne medication, please tell us before treatment so we can assess what is appropriate for your skin.
Home Care Matters
Acne-prone skin does not always need stronger or more aggressive products.
Over-cleansing, excessive exfoliation and layering multiple active products can sometimes increase irritation and compromise the skin barrier.
Your therapist can help you build a routine suited to the type of acne or congestion you are experiencing rather than simply adding more products.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
There is no single timeline because acne can have different causes and levels of severity.
Some congestion can begin improving relatively quickly, while persistent or inflammatory acne usually requires consistent treatment and home care over a longer period.
We assess your progress over time and adjust your plan rather than promising a fixed number of treatments.
-
This depends on the treatment performed and how your skin responds.
After some treatments, it may be preferable to leave the skin free from makeup for the remainder of the day.
Your therapist will give you treatment-specific advice before you leave.
-
Possibly, but your medication must be reviewed first.
Some prescription acne medications can significantly affect skin sensitivity, healing and which professional treatments are appropriate.
Please tell us about all current and recently ceased prescription and topical medications before treatment.
We will modify, postpone or decline a treatment where required rather than compromise your skin.
-
Not every breakout requires dermatological treatment.
However, we may recommend medical assessment if your acne is severe, cystic, painful, rapidly worsening, causing significant scarring or is not responding as expected to appropriate professional and home care.
Sibu treatment and medical management do not have to be competing approaches.
Where appropriate, professional skin care can support the skin alongside treatment prescribed by your doctor or dermatologist.
-
Skin Needling is primarily positioned within this concern pathway for appropriate post-acne scarring, rather than actively inflamed acne.
If you still have active breakouts, your therapist will first assess whether the skin needs to be stabilised before moving into scar-focused treatment.
Not Sure Where to Start?
If you have been moving between products and treatments without a clear plan, you do not need to work out the right treatment yourself.
Choose our Welcome Treatment if you would like guidance together with treatment, or a Skin Consultation if you would prefer dedicated assessment and planning first.
