LED Light Therapy

Professional LED Light Therapy for Skin Health

LED Light Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to support the skin’s natural repair and renewal processes.

At Sibu Skin and Beauty, LED may be used as a standalone treatment or incorporated into a broader skin treatment plan depending on your skin, concerns and goals.

LED can be particularly useful when the aim is to support skin recovery, calm inflammation, improve overall skin quality or complement treatments focused on ageing, breakouts and skin health.

What LED Light Therapy Can Support

LED Light Therapy may be recommended to support:

  • skin recovery and repair

  • redness and inflammation

  • breakout-prone skin

  • collagen and skin rejuvenation

  • overall skin health and resilience

  • recovery following selected professional skin treatments

The most appropriate light and treatment programme depends on your skin and the result we are trying to achieve.

How LED Light Therapy Works

LED, or light-emitting diode therapy, exposes the skin to selected wavelengths of light.

Different wavelengths interact with the skin in different ways, which allows LED to be selected according to the treatment objective.

At Sibu Skin and Beauty, LED treatment may include red, blue and near-infrared wavelengths depending on your skin and treatment plan.

Red Light

Red light is commonly used to support skin rejuvenation, repair and overall skin quality.

It may be selected when the treatment objective includes supporting collagen, calming the skin or improving the appearance of ageing and stressed skin.

Near-Infrared Light

Near-infrared light penetrates more deeply than visible red light and may be used to support recovery, inflammation management and skin repair.

It can also be incorporated into treatment plans where supporting skin healing and resilience is a priority.

Blue Light

Blue light may be used selectively for breakout-prone skin where reducing acne-associated bacteria is part of the treatment objective.

It is not automatically appropriate for every breakout or every skin type, so wavelength selection is made according to your individual skin.

In-Clinic LED Light Therapy

Our professional in-clinic LED treatments allow your therapist to select the appropriate wavelength and treatment approach according to your skin.

LED may be booked as a standalone treatment or recommended alongside another professional service.

It can be particularly useful when we want to support the skin without adding further exfoliation or stimulation.

Standalone LED

A standalone LED appointment is suitable when LED itself is the primary treatment.

This may be recommended as part of a treatment programme, between more intensive skin treatments, or when the skin would benefit from a gentle supportive treatment.

LED Within a Treatment Plan

LED may also be recommended alongside selected professional treatments where it supports the treatment objective and is appropriate for your skin.

Your therapist will advise when LED adds genuine benefit rather than automatically including it in every treatment.

Who LED Light Therapy May Be Suitable For

LED may be considered for clients wanting to support:

  • ageing and loss of skin vitality

  • inflammatory or breakout-prone skin

  • redness and sensitivity

  • skin recovery

  • compromised or stressed skin

  • overall skin quality

  • maintenance between professional treatments

LED is generally gentle and non-invasive, but treatment still needs to be selected according to your skin, medications, health history and individual suitability.

What to Expect

During Treatment

Your skin is cleansed as required and protective eyewear is used where appropriate.

The LED device is positioned over or around the treatment area and the selected light programme is applied for the prescribed treatment time.

LED itself does not involve needles, heat-based resurfacing or removal of the skin surface.

Most clients find the treatment comfortable and relaxing.

After Treatment

There is usually little to no downtime from LED Light Therapy itself.

Your skin may feel calm, comfortable and hydrated following treatment, although your aftercare may differ if LED has been combined with another professional procedure.

In that situation, follow the aftercare for the primary treatment.

Treatment Plans & Results

LED results are cumulative.

While the skin may feel calmer or look refreshed following an individual session, LED is generally most useful when incorporated consistently into an appropriate treatment plan.

Your recommended frequency will depend on:

  • your skin concern

  • the wavelength being used

  • whether LED is standalone or supporting another treatment

  • your broader skin programme

  • your individual response

Your therapist will recommend a schedule based on what we are actually trying to achieve rather than prescribing the same course to every client.

At-Home LED Therapy

Professional Skin Support Between Appointments

At-home LED can extend the role of light therapy beyond the treatment room and support consistency between professional appointments.

Sibu Skin and Beauty offers home LED options for clients who would benefit from regular light therapy as part of their ongoing skin plan.

Our current home LED range is designed to support concerns including skin rejuvenation, breakouts, inflammation and overall skin quality. Existing approved product material describes red, blue and near-infrared light options and positions home LED as a way to support clearer, calmer and more balanced skin between professional treatments.

Who At-Home LED May Be Suitable For

Home LED may be worth considering if you:

  • would benefit from more frequent LED than is practical in clinic

  • want to support the results of your professional treatment programme

  • are managing ongoing concerns such as breakouts or inflammation

  • want regular support for ageing and overall skin quality

  • prefer to incorporate professional-grade skin technology into your home routine

Home LED works best when it is selected for your actual skin needs and used consistently. Your therapist can help determine whether it is worthwhile for you and how it should fit into your broader treatment plan. Consistency is also emphasised in the approved home LED product guidance.

In-Clinic LED or At-Home LED?

They do not need to be an either/or choice.

In-clinic LED allows your therapist to assess your skin, select the appropriate treatment and integrate LED with your professional skin programme.

At-home LED allows more regular use between appointments and can help support the objectives of your professional treatment plan.

For some clients, clinic LED is all that is required. For others, a home LED device can be a useful addition.

We will recommend home LED when it genuinely adds value to your skin plan rather than simply because the device is available.

Before LED Light Therapy

Please tell your therapist before treatment if:

  • you are taking any new medications or supplements

  • you are using medication known to increase sensitivity to light

  • you have a medical condition affected by light exposure

  • you have recently experienced a significant skin reaction

  • you have had a recent procedure or treatment that may affect your skin

  • your health or skin has changed since your previous appointment

Do not stop prescribed medication without advice from the prescribing health professional.

If you are using a home LED device, follow the device-specific instructions provided for preparation and use.

Contraindications & When We May Need to Postpone Treatment

LED may need to be modified or postponed where light exposure is not appropriate.

Please let your therapist know about:

  • medications or medical conditions associated with photosensitivity

  • known light-sensitive conditions

  • active or unexplained skin reactions in the treatment area

  • recent procedures requiring specific recovery precautions

  • any significant change to your health or medication

  • a previous unusual reaction to LED or another light-based treatment

Your therapist will assess suitability and may request medical clearance where appropriate.

Aftercare

Standalone LED generally requires very little specific aftercare.

As a general guide:

  • continue your normal gentle skincare unless advised otherwise

  • keep the skin appropriately hydrated

  • use broad-spectrum SPF during the day

  • follow any treatment-specific instructions provided by your therapist

If LED was used following another professional treatment, follow the aftercare instructions for that primary treatment.

For home LED, use the device only according to the recommended programme and manufacturer instructions.
