Who Waxing May Be Suitable For
Waxing may be suitable if you are looking for:
immediate removal of unwanted facial or body hair
smoother skin without daily shaving
regular maintenance of facial or body hair
an alternative when IPL or another longer-term hair reduction treatment is not appropriate or preferred
Suitability can vary depending on your skin condition, medications, active skincare and recent treatments.
What to Expect
During Treatment
Hair is removed from the root using professional waxing techniques appropriate to the treatment area.
Brief discomfort is normal as the wax is removed. Your therapist will work efficiently while taking care to protect the surrounding skin.
After Treatment
Temporary redness, warmth or sensitivity can occur following waxing and generally settles as the skin recovers.
Your therapist will provide any specific aftercare required for your skin and treatment area.
Before Your Treatment
For the best waxing result:
allow enough hair growth for the wax to grip effectively
arrive with the treatment area clean where possible
avoid applying heavy oils or creams immediately before your appointment
avoid exfoliating irritated or sensitised skin before treatment
tell your therapist about active skincare, prescription products, medications or recent skin treatments
avoid waxing skin that is sunburnt, broken or significantly irritated
For facial waxing in particular, please tell your therapist if you use retinoids, prescription acne products, exfoliating acids or other resurfacing products around the treatment area.
Aftercare
Your therapist will provide treatment-specific guidance where required. As a general guide after waxing:
avoid rubbing, scratching or unnecessarily touching freshly waxed skin
avoid excessive heat, steam and heavy sweating while the area remains sensitive
avoid strong active skincare directly over freshly waxed skin until it has settled
avoid unnecessary sun exposure and protect exposed skin with broad-spectrum SPF
avoid exfoliating the area until any temporary redness or sensitivity has resolved
For complete treatment-specific instructions, please see our Waxing Aftercare page.
Contraindications & When We May Need to Postpone Treatment
Waxing may need to be modified or postponed if the skin cannot be treated safely.
Please tell your therapist if you have:
broken, grazed or infected skin in the treatment area
active dermatitis, significant inflammation or another active skin condition
sunburn or recently significantly tanned skin
recently undergone a peel, resurfacing treatment or procedure affecting the area
recently used products or medications that may make the skin more fragile or prone to lifting
experienced a previous significant reaction to waxing
Particular care is required when waxing areas where retinoids, prescription acne treatments or strong resurfacing products are being used.
Your therapist will assess the skin before proceeding and may recommend modifying or postponing treatment if necessary.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
The hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grip effectively. If you have been shaving, allowing some regrowth before your appointment will usually produce a better result.
If you are unsure whether you have enough growth, contact us before your appointment.
-
This varies according to the treatment area and your individual hair-growth cycle. Because waxing removes hair from the root, regrowth is generally slower than shaving.
Regular waxing can also make regrowth feel softer or finer for some clients over time.
-
Sometimes, but it depends on the product, strength, frequency of use and area being waxed.
Retinoids, prescription acne products and strong exfoliating or resurfacing products can make the skin more vulnerable to irritation or lifting during waxing.
Please tell your therapist what you are using before treatment rather than stopping prescribed medication without medical advice.
-
Generally, no.
IPL relies on pigment within hair connected to the follicle. Waxing removes the hair from the follicle and can interfere with an IPL treatment programme.
If you are undergoing IPL hair reduction, follow the hair-removal instructions provided by your therapist between appointments.
-
Temporary redness or mild sensitivity is a common response because hair has been removed from the follicle and the skin has been mechanically treated.
This generally settles fairly quickly. Follow your aftercare instructions and contact us if you experience an unusual or prolonged reaction.
-
Yes. Our current menu includes Brow Sculpt + Lip Wax and Brow Sculpt + Lip + Chin Wax.
