Laser Tattoo Removal

Professional laser tattoo removal with treatment tailored to your tattoo, skin and individual response.

A consultation is required before your first treatment.

Professional Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal works by delivering targeted light energy into tattoo pigment, breaking the ink into smaller particles that can gradually be cleared by the body over time.

Tattoo removal is a progressive process rather than a one-treatment procedure. How a tattoo responds can vary considerably depending on factors including its size, colour, age, depth and how it was originally applied. Complete removal cannot be guaranteed, and some tattoos may be significantly faded rather than completely removed.

Your treatment plan begins with a consultation so we can assess your tattoo and skin, discuss realistic expectations and determine whether laser treatment is suitable for you.

Tattoo Removal Consultation

A consultation is required before commencing laser tattoo removal.

During your consultation we assess:

  • the tattoo and treatment area

  • ink colours

  • size and coverage

  • age and type of tattoo

  • your skin

  • relevant health and treatment history

  • expected response

  • likely treatment course

Your therapist will also discuss expected skin responses, treatment intervals, aftercare and any factors that may affect your results.

Tattoo Removal Treatment

Once you have completed your consultation and have been assessed as suitable, your laser tattoo removal program can begin.

Laser energy targets the tattoo pigment while treatment parameters are selected for the individual tattoo and skin.

Black and dark blue inks generally respond better than many lighter colours. Yellow, white, green, fluorescent and UV inks can be more difficult to remove and may respond differently to treatment.

Your progress will be reviewed throughout your treatment course.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

There is no single number of sessions that applies to every tattoo.

The number required depends on factors including:

  • size

  • colour

  • depth

  • age of the tattoo

  • professional versus amateur application

  • the amount and density of ink

  • your individual response

Your therapist will provide an estimate during your consultation, but the actual number of treatments may be higher or lower.

Adequate healing time between sessions is essential. Sibu's current treatment documentation generally uses intervals of approximately 6–8 weeks, with treatment proceeding only once the area has healed appropriately.

What to Expect

During treatment you may feel a quick snapping or hot sensation as the laser pulses are delivered.

Immediately afterwards, the area may develop:

  • redness

  • swelling

  • temporary whitening or “frosting”

  • tenderness

  • blistering

  • temporary darkening or lightening of the treated skin

These can occur as part of the expected response to laser tattoo removal.

Your therapist will explain what to expect and how to care for the area following treatment.

Contraindications & When We May Need to Postpone Treatment

Your tattoo removal consultation and pre-treatment assessment are important because treatment may need to be postponed or modified if the area is not suitable on the day.

Please tell us if:

  • the treatment area has an active infection

  • there is blistering, broken skin or an open wound

  • the area has an active natural or fake tan

  • the skin has not adequately healed from your previous treatment

  • you are taking a medication that may cause photosensitivity

  • you have experienced unexpected healing or skin changes following a previous session

  • there has been a change to your health, medications or skin since your consultation

Treatment will only proceed when your therapist is satisfied that the area is suitable.
