Smooth, Refined Skin with Professional Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a gentle professional exfoliation treatment that removes surface dead skin cells and fine vellus hair, often referred to as peach fuzz.
At Sibu Skin and Beauty, Dermaplaning is performed as a Signature – Dermaplaning treatment and is designed to leave the skin feeling smoother, softer and more refined while supporting a brighter, fresher-looking complexion.
It can be particularly useful when the skin feels rough, dull or uneven, or when fine facial hair is affecting the way skincare or makeup sits on the skin.
What Is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning uses a sterile professional blade held at a controlled angle and passed carefully across the surface of the skin.
This gently removes accumulated dead skin cells from the outermost layers of the skin while also removing fine vellus hair.
Unlike treatments that rely on heat, needles or energy-based technology, Dermaplaning works directly at the skin surface and provides immediate physical exfoliation.
The treatment is performed by a trained therapist following assessment of your skin and suitability.
What Can Dermaplaning Help With?
Dermaplaning may be recommended to help improve the appearance and feel of:
dull or lacklustre skin
rough or uneven surface texture
fine vellus hair on the face
dry surface build-up
skin that feels less smooth
makeup sitting unevenly on the skin
It can also be incorporated into a broader professional skin plan when surface exfoliation would support the overall treatment objective.
What Are the Benefits?
Following Dermaplaning, the skin often feels immediately smoother and softer.
Potential benefits include:
removal of surface dead skin cells
removal of fine vellus facial hair
smoother-looking skin texture
a more even surface for makeup application
a brighter, fresher appearance & improved overall skin feel
minimal expected downtime for most suitable clients
Results vary depending on your skin condition, treatment programme and individual response.
Will Dermaplaning Make My Hair Grow Back Thicker?
No.
Dermaplaning does not change the structure of the hair follicle or convert fine vellus hair into thicker terminal hair.
The hair will gradually grow back according to its normal growth cycle and characteristics.
When it first returns, it may occasionally feel slightly more noticeable because the hair has been cut across rather than naturally tapered at the end, but Dermaplaning does not make the hair itself grow back thicker or darker.
Who May Be Suitable for Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning may be suitable for clients wanting to improve:
dull or rough skin
surface dryness and build-up
fine vellus facial hair
skin that feels less smooth
skin before an event or special occasion
skin that would benefit from gentle professional surface exfoliation
Suitability is assessed individually.
When Dermaplaning May Not Be Appropriate
Treatment may need to be modified or postponed where there is:
active or inflamed breakouts
broken or compromised skin
active skin infection
significant irritation or sensitivity
recent procedures or treatments
medications or active products affecting skin integrity
Your therapist will assess suitability before proceeding.
During Treatment
your skin is assessed, cleansed and prepared
a sterile professional blade is used in controlled movements
surface dead skin cells and fine vellus hair are removed
treatment is customised according to your skin
most clients find Dermaplaning comfortable
After Treatment
skin should feel smoother and may appear brighter
temporary mild redness, sensitivity or tightness may occur
skin may be temporarily more vulnerable to irritation and sun exposure
gentle skincare and broad-spectrum SPF are important
Aftercare
Following Dermaplaning, keep your skincare gentle while the skin settles, avoid unnecessary exfoliation or strong active products, keep the skin hydrated and use broad-spectrum SPF during the day.
If Dermaplaning has been combined with another treatment, follow the aftercare instructions for the overall treatment performed.
Dermaplaning Within Your Skin Plan
Dermaplaning can be used as an individual treatment or as part of a broader skin programme.
Your therapist may recommend it periodically when surface texture or vellus hair is a priority, or combine it with suitable professional treatments where doing so provides a genuine benefit for your skin.
Treatment frequency should be based on your skin, hair growth and overall treatment plan rather than following a fixed schedule for everyone.
FAQs
Does Dermaplaning hurt?
Dermaplaning is generally considered a comfortable treatment when performed correctly on suitable skin. You may feel the blade moving across the skin, but the treatment should not feel like cutting or scraping the skin.
Will my facial hair grow back darker or thicker?
No.
Dermaplaning removes the hair at the skin surface and does not alter the follicle or the biological characteristics of the hair.
Is there downtime?
Most suitable clients experience little downtime from Dermaplaning itself.
Temporary redness, sensitivity or tightness can occur, particularly in more reactive skin.
Can Dermaplaning help with pigmentation?
Dermaplaning removes surface dead skin cells and may temporarily make the complexion appear brighter and more even.
It does not treat the underlying causes of pigmentation. If pigmentation is your primary concern, your therapist can recommend treatments specifically targeted to it.
Can Dermaplaning help acne?
Dermaplaning is not an acne treatment and may not be appropriate over active inflammatory breakouts.
If congestion or acne is your main concern, we will assess your skin and recommend a more appropriate treatment pathway.
How often should I have Dermaplaning?
There is no single frequency that suits everyone.
Your therapist will recommend timing based on your skin, hair growth, treatment goals and any other professional treatments you are having.
